The largest program offered by Catholic Charities is Emergency Assistance. This program combines material and financial assistance with advocacy efforts for people in need of food, shelter, clothing, transportation, utility assistance, homeless outreach and prescription assistance. In 2009, Catholic Charities offered the following types of Emergency Assistance Services:
Utility Payments - 5,632 people
Food Services - 4,784 people
Emergency Shelter (not including domestic violence shelter)- 1,355 people
Clothing - 1,081 people
Essential Prescription Medication and Medical Supplies - 1,026 people
Holiday/Special Event assistance - 2,763 people
Emergency Assistance extends help and hope in times of crisis and need to families and children in cooperation with other social service agencies, churches, food pantries and kitchens.
The Benefit Bank - Agencies have access to a computer program that helps low-income individuals and families access the public benefit programs for which they are eligible. Last year, 113 households participated in the Ohio Benefit Bank services; 105 were eligible for some type of assistance.
