Catholic Charities Housing Opportunities (CCHO) provides housing services throughout the Diocese of Youngstown. In 2008, housing counseling made up 79% of the housing services provided by Catholic Charities, down payment assistance, 3%; HOPE Club, 8%; domestic violence shelter, 10%.
Housing Counseling
Working with Catholic Charities agencies, CCHO provides counseling and limited short-term financial assistance to at-risk families and individuals. In addition to housing counseling, CCHO offers a down payment assistance program for low-income, special needs and at-risk individuals and families. 617 people received housing counseling and related services in 2008. In addition, 15 people received down payment assistance.
Community Development
CCHO participates in development projects designed to provide quality affordable housing within the six-county area of the Diocese, emphasizing social justice and self-help models. Currently, CCHO owns and manages five rental homes, providing shelter for 24 people last year.
Caritas Communities
In collaboration with Humility of Mary Housing, Inc., CCHO provides affordable, low-income housing in a 154-unit apartment complex on Youngstown's east side known as Eastwood Village. The complex offers weekly on-site visits by a registered nurse, 24-hour emergency services, a video library, computer center and on-site food pantry. In 2008, 201 people were housed at Eastwood Village.
